Just last year, on November 8, 2015 the 2nd Annual Across the Bay 10K took place in Anne Arundel and Queen Anne’s counties catering to 25,000 participants.  Last year the race became the 6th largest 10K event in the United States and one of the only races in the world that allow runners to cross an iconic bridge.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, officially named the William Preston Land, Jr. Memorial Bridge, provides access between Annapolis and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  When it was completed in 1952, the original two lane span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was the world’s longest continuous over water steel structure.  Today, the 6.2 mile race is the only race over the bridge, where 4.35 miles is run over water.

“In so many28554937_race_0.5453544304197171.display ways, the effort in managing this event was incredibly daunting.  However, what made all the difference in being able to pull it off for the second year in a row was the support of all the local agencies involved, the wonderful sponsors and the 25,000 participants themselves” said Dave McGillivray, Race Director and President of DMSE Sports, Inc.. Of those 25,000 participants, 18 countries and 38 states were represented and runners were anywhere from 87 years young to 10.“Everyone took personal responsibility and the event come off without a hitch.  This race is a phenomenon in our industry” said McGillivray.28554882_race_0.13267463659080092.display

With the race in only 129 days on November 6th, all sorts of runners at all levels are encouraged to sign up for the 10k and test their endurance. At the finish line, there is a live concert where you are also rewarded with a t-shirt, a medal, and more. Why wouldn’t you sign up for this awesome event?
