Combining an aquatics center with a multi-purpose sports center makes Fairland attractive for swimming, gymnastics and tennis as well as health fairs and other community events for all. Fairland Aquatics is a local swimming mecca that hosts approximately 35 swim meets per year. The most prestigious swim meet held last year was the PVS’ 2017 Long Course 14 and Under Championships. Katie Ledecky, the current world record holder in the women’s 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle, has competed at the Fairland Aquatics Center in the past.
Within the 12,000 square-foot indoor sports center, this has been transformed to host major gymnastics competitions each year. A few upcoming competitions include several boys and girls gymnastics meets, the State Trampoline Classic in January 2018 as well as the Blue Moon Invitational, also in January 2018.
Aside from large events that draw in a crowd from outside the State of Maryland, Fairland Sports and Aquatics Center also hosts several community events to engage their local members. Include in one’s membership to Fairland, members can participate in several events throughout the year, including Health Fairs, Aqua Egg Hunts, Walk With Ease, Movie Nights, Walking Clubs and more!
Carl Smith, Marketing Manager for Prince George’s County Convention and Visitors Bureau stated, “It is not a misnomer when we say that Maryland is here to play. In Prince George’s County, as well as across our beautiful state, we have extraordinary venues for every sport and challenge. With its aquatics center, playing fields, and other amenities, Fairland is such an outstanding facility. A tremendous asset not just for our residents, but also in providing wonderful opportunities for local, regional and national competition – all within minutes of our Nation’s Capital.”
