Tucked away just west of Baltimore, the Frederick Running Festival is a hidden gem of the running community. Now in its 16th year, the festival features four races, which all finish at the Frederick Fairgrounds.
Runners can choose between the 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, May 5th or the half-marathon and two-person team relay on Sunday, May 6th. Visit Frederick will have a celebration village for runners of all types in the afternoon on Saturday and again Sunday morning. The celebration village will include food, complimentary beer (21 and over), interactive games and live music!
Wanting to run for a cause? The Frederick Running Festival is excited to have a number of charity groups in the event. All groups offer the opportunity to raise money for worthwhile causes. Some charity groups involved include Athletes Serving Athletes, Heifer International and Hospice of Frederick County.
If you consider yourself someone who runs half-marathons, 10Ks and other runs for fun, be sure to check out the King Crab Challenge. Runners who complete the Frederick Running Festival, the Baltimore 20-Miler and the Baltimore Running Festival will receive prizes and awards. The deadline for adding your name to the King Crab Challenge list is August 1st.
Lee Corrigan, President of Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE), stated, “Over the years, The Frederick Half Marathon and Running Festival has become a favorite in the region. Year after year we hear from the runners how charming the City of Frederick is.”
The Frederick Running Festival generates an estimated $3.5 million in economic impact according to a recent study by RESI, an economic research and consulting firm located at Towson University. Visit Frederick and CSE are expecting 7,500 runners from 35 states, DC, Canada and even Afghanistan.
