Cecil County accommodates events for all with 217 miles of shoreline, 47 marinas, around 2,000 hotel and bed & breakfast rooms, and close to 20 diverse community and state parks, athletic complexes, recreation centers and more.
Aside from the beautiful water views and abundant rural land, Cecil County has seen itself in the news in regards to new and exciting venues that will be available in its future.
Just a few weeks ago, Cecil County Public Schools and the Cecil County government signed a memorandum of understanding on turf field usage at high schools. As this agreement will give CCPS athletes the ability to practice and play on pristine fields, it also creates a connection between the school system and Cecil County Department of Parks and Recreation for mutual usage of facilities.
Cindy Cantor, Superintendent for Cecil County Parks and Recreation and TEAM Maryland partner, stated, “We are very pleased about the signing of the MOU. It is something that we have worked towards for many years and see it as an essential partnership, long overdue with CCPS, that will further our efforts at regionalizing Parks and Recreation offerings where no facilities currently exist. So it is a huge step in the right direction.”
In addition to the exciting news of the MOU is the development of Calvert Regional Park, an athletic complex currently in its second phase of completion. Cantor also stated, “We will now have 12 full sized fields, of which one is a synthetic lighted turf stadium. The adjacent high school property has 4 more usable fields so that we can be considered for events up to 16 fields, which we will host this October for the first time.”
Cecil County has increased their local community’s ability to participate in sports at a competitive level, and they are also molding their international profile as well. The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) announced this July that they nominated Fair Hill to host a four-star equestrian competition beginning in the fall of 2019.
A four-star event is a world-class event on par with the Olympics, and Fair Hill International will be the seventh in the world to host an event of this caliber, while only being the second four star in the
United States with the event also taking place in Lexington, Ky. as well. Fair Hill currently holds a three-star in their spacious Elkton home, and with the addition of the four-star in the future, Fair Hill plans to create major improvements and renovations to their unique and pristine grounds.
