The picturesque surroundings of Frederick County make it a unique venue for sports events. Frederick’s sports venues offer sweeping views of the picturesque mountains and historic covered bridges, as well as opportunities to play in the bustling downtown historic district.

Few destinations are more centrally located to America’s Mid-Atlantic attractions than Frederick County. Being an ideal location, Frederick County seeks a retention rate for their marquee events, including Gran Fondo Maryland, Tour de Frederick bicycle tour, Clustered Spires High Wheel Race, Dick’s Sporting Goods Atlantic Cup and Lacrosse Tournament while being home to the Frederick Keys, Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

“Sports tourism has continued to grow and innovate in Frederick, Maryland with unique annual events such as the Clustered Spires High Wheel Race,” stated Becky Bickerton, Director of Sales & Marketing.

Offering a plethora of sport types from biking to baseball to lacrosse keeps Frederick County on top when it comes to pristine athletic venues, and PNC Sports Complex at Mount St. Mary’s University is just one of the many examples. The PNC Fitness Center is a 4,800 square foot bi-level facility open to all students, Mount Employees and members. Offering state of the art equipment, the upper level includes 21 cardio pieces (Octane & Matrix) and a designated stretching/abdominal area that includes Bosu & Stability Balls, Spri Tubing, and stretching mats. The lower level includes free weights, two half power cages, personalized machines, a fixed barbell area and two functional trainers. Also located on campus is the Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex (ARCC), which features a main arena/convocation center with a seating capacity of 3,500 for basketball and up to 5,000 for other events.

If the weather is looking a little dreary, say no more. The Frederick Indoor Sport Center (FISC) is mid-Maryland’s premier sports and training venue, featuring a state-of-the-art playing environment for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and flag football. FISC is a 65,000 square-foot indoor sports and training venue with state-of-the-art playing conditions on two 84’x185′ turf fields. Also indoors is the area’s premier skating facility, Skate Frederick. Skate Frederick features two NHL regulation rinks, as well as spectator seating, skate rentals and more!

“The future of sports tourism in Frederick is a bright one. The proposed development of West Side Regional Park, offering high quality sports venues for fitness at all levels of ability, will usher Frederick into a new era for athletics,” stated Bickerton.
