Neighboring the Nation’s Capital and home to Olympic gold medalists Brad Schumacher, Mark Henderson and Sugar Ray Leonard, Prince George’s County offers a multitude of sports opportunities to experience the event of a lifetime.
Prince George’s County is situated just south of Baltimore, offering over 65 sports venues covering anything from water sports, golf, curling and much more. Ideally located within minutes to Washington, D.C., Prince George’s County takes a great amount of pride in the famous Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.
Offering traditional as well as unique sports, Prince George’s County covers over 20 different sports for their community to participate in. A major key to PG’s athletic success is the University of Maryland. University of Maryland College Park is a Division I university, offering 19 varsity sports to their student-athletes, as well as club teams for students. University of Maryland’s athletic facilities are some of the best in the area for the high-caliber DI student-athletes, but also serve a purpose to the community as well.
As a kid, nothing is cooler than getting to play your favorite sport on a field you watch “celebrities” compete on. The University of Maryland makes these kids’ dreams come true, allowing their fields, arenas and other facilities to be used for post-game clinics, cheer competitions, and much more.
Aside from being home to a collegiate athletic powerhouse, Prince George’s County also boasts its pride in their Parks and Recreation fields and facilities, such as the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. One of the complex’s highlights is the gymnastics center. The setup of the facility makes it easy for all to see the excitement, with a seating capacity of 1,100 spectators. Although the gymnastics center has a lot to offer, that is just scratching the surface with Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. There is also an aquatic center which is one of the largest in the region, as well as the Marvin F. Wilson Stadium, an outdoor turf field hosting up to 5,500 spectators and the Field House which is used for indoor track and will be hosting the 2018 USATF Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships in March 2018. One can do all in this amazing Hyattsville complex.
