Spring has finally sprung, so what better time is there to swim, bike and run than next weekend in Charles County!
Staged out of beautiful General Smallwood State Park, this park and area are ideally situated for a triathlon with rolling courses and low traffic roads. The swim takes place in the Mattawoman Bay, known across the Nation as a prime example of what a fully restored Chesapeake Bay tributary looks like. After a quick run to the transition area, athletes will race along rolling, freshly paved, low traffic roads of Charles County. Once the athletes have laced up their running shoes, they’ll head back to the road for another scenic, rolling course with aid stations every mile.
The last mile of the course is amazing as triathletes re-enter the park and head downhill almost the entire way until just before the finish where they will take a wooden bridge over the Mattawoman Bay. The finish line and post race BBQ are not to be missed.
“We have been racing at General Smallwood State Park for well over a decade. The park and surrounding area of Charles County are amazing,” Greg Hawkins, Kinetic Multisports owner stated. “The rolling terrain, well-paved roads, and good water quality all contribute to a fantastic race. We have 500 athletes coming to town for the race, and they’ll eat and stay locally in La Plata, Waldorf, and Indian Head. The County and Park staff are a pleasure to work with and we look forward to racing here for years to come.”
Kinetic Multisports (previously known as Virginia-Maryland Triathlon Series) is the event organizer of this annual triathlon. They host 50 events across five states. Kinetic Multisports is proud to offer premier events to athletes of the Mid-Atlantic. The company began in 2005 and has expanded over the years to include triathlons in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
